

The open call for Season 5 is now live! The past four seasons of The Gallery have been viewed over 200 million times on digital screens and billboards across 55+ UK towns and cities. For the first time this project will expand beyond the UK to Brazil, as part of the British Council’s UK/Brazil Season of Culture.
We’re looking for artists to respond to the theme ‘It’s Not Easy Being Green’. Submissions can be proposals for two-dimensional static works in any media.

Conversations about climate change dominate the global agenda. From corporate greenwashing to debates about single use plastics, carbon footprints and environmentally-sustainable living, Kermit the Frog’s singular line “It’s Not Easy Being Green” takes on a whole new meaning. What can art bring to the conversation? How can it inspire meaning and generate ideas to help our societies navigate the environmental challenges that lie ahead?

Artworks will be displayed for millions to see in public spaces in Brazil as well as England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland in partnership with the Out of Home Industry. Artists will be supported to develop and adapt their work for presentation on advertising billboards, bus shelters and similar. They will also receive ongoing mentoring and advice during the process.
